Background
STATs (signal transducers and activators of transcription) are a family of cytoplasmic latent transcription factors that are activated to regulate gene expression in response to a large number of extracellular signaling polypeptides including cytokines, interferons, and growth factors. STAT1 is involved in the TNFR1-TRADD signaling complex. In Hela cells STAT1 acts as a TNFR1-signaling molecule to suppress NF-kB activation. It has also been shown that its activation slows growth and promotes apoptosis. |
Antigen
A synthetic peptide sequence corresponding to amino acids 711-730 EVHPSRLQTTDNLLPMSPEE of human Stat1 was used as immunogen: GenBanK no. NP_009330.1. This sequence is 100% conserved between Stat1 alpha and Stat1 beta. |
Application Notes
This antibody is able to detect both the alpha form (p91, ~91 kD) and the beta form (p84, ~84 kD) of STAT1. This is because the amino acid sequence used as immunogen is 100% homologous in both forms. The amino acid sequence used is 100% homologous in human, mouse, dog, pig and chimp, 86% in rat and 80% in chicken. |
