Background MERTK is a novel transmembrane, receptor-like tyrosine kinase belonging to the MER/AXL/TYRO3 receptor kinase family with two fibronectin type-III domains, two Ig-like C2-type (immunoglobulin-like) domains, and a tyrosine kinase domain. MERTK, a membrane protein, may have a functional role in filovirus infection, where it may act as a cell entry factor. MERTK is a GAS6 receptor, participating through binding to GAS6 in platelet function and platelet dependent thrombosis in vitro. Defects in MERTK have been associated with disruption of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) phagocytosis pathway and onset of autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa (RP). It is usually detected in normal peripheral blood monocytes, macrophages, bone marrow, and tissues of epithelial and reproductive origin. |
Antigen
A portion of amino acids 50-100 of human MERTK was used as the immunogen. |
Application Notes
The amino acid sequence used as immunogen is 100% homologous in human, chimpanzee, 77% homologous in rhesus monkey, and 55% homologous in mouse. |
