Background
Beta-arrestin 1 is a 418 amino acid containing signaling neurotransmitter that belongs to the arrestin family with an arrestin N terminal and an arrestin C terminal domain. A regulator of beta-adrenergic receptor function, Beta-arrestin 1 seems to bind to phosphorylated beta-adrenergic receptors, thereby causing a significant impairment of their capacity to activate G(S) proteins. It is also reported to act as an activator of the lymphoid enhancer factor (LEF) transcription factor. Beta-arrestin 1 plays a crucial role in ubiquitination and down-regulation of the insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor by acting as an adaptor for the MDM2 E3 ligase. Purified beta-arrestin inhibits the signaling function of BARK-phosphorylated beta-adrenergic receptors by more than 75%, but not that of rhodopsin, and is also involved in synaptic transmission in photoreceptor cells. It is widely expressed in most tissues.

Antigen
A portion of amino acids 320-370 of human Beta-arrestin 1 was used as the immunogen.

Application Notes
The amino acid sequence used as immunogen is 100% homologous in human, mouse, rat, cow and zebrafish, and 70% homologous in chicken and frog.

Beta-arrestin 1 Antibody

Western blot analysis of Beta-arrestin 1 in human testis lysate in the 1) absence and 2) presence of immunizing peptide using IMG-6428A at 2.0 ug/ml.  IMGENEX’s goat anti-rabbit Ig HRP secondary antibody (IMGENEX, 20301) and PicoTect ECL substrate solution (IMGENEX, 10087K) were used for this test.
