Background HMG14, also known as HMGN1, along with HMG17 and HMGN2 are non-histone proteins that bind nucleosomal cores and nucleosomal DNA (1, 2). Like transcription regulatory factors, they may travel to and from the nucleus or at least dissociate and bind again to DNA promoting the folding and unfolding of DNA regulatory sequences exposed to or hiding from binding sites of regulatory factors (3). Both HMG14 and HMG17 affect remodeling and therefore regulate gene activation or repression through transcription factor activity or DNA repair mechanisms (4, 5). Antibody to HMG14 aids in identifying its role in epigenetic related studies. |
Antigen
A portion of amino acids 1-50 from human HMG14 was used as the immunogen for this antibody. |
Application Notes
The HMG14 amino acid sequence used as immunogen for this antibody is 100% homologous in human, cow, new world monkey, dog, rhesus monkey, white-cheeked gibbon, rabbit, and pig, 94% in guinea pig, mole rat, elephant, chimpanzee, and orangutan, 83% in panda, opossum, mouse, and rat, 78% in zebra finch, 72% in carolina anole, and wild turkey, and 61% homologouus in platypus. |

Western blot analysis of HMG14 in Daudi lysate in the 1) absence and 2) presence of immunizing peptide probed with 2 ug/ml of HMG14 antibody. IMGENEX’s goat anti-rabbit Ig HRP secondary antibody (20301) and PicoTect ECL substrate solution (10087K) were used for this test. |
