Background
Principal Names: BR, CD49B, GPIA, ITGA2, VLA-2, VLAA2; ITGA2 encodes the integrin alpha chain. Integrins are heterodimers of two transmembrane chains, a and ß and are involved in cell adhesion and in cell-surface mediated signalling. ITGA2 associates with integrin beta-1. Integrin alpha-2beta-1 is a receptor for laminin, collagen, collagen C-propeptides, fibronectin and E-cadherin. It is localized to human chromosome 5q23-q31. ITGA2 is expressed in human blood, intestine, kidney, mammary gland and lung. |
