Background Principal Names: tubulin, beta Official Gene Symbol: TUBB Gene ID: 203068 (Human) Gene Map Locus: 6p21.33 (Human) Microtubules are polymers of tubulin, a dimer of two 55 kD subunits, designated alpha and beta. Within the microtubule lattice, alpha-beta heterodimers associate in a head-to-tail fashion, giving rise to microtubule polarity. Tubulin binds two moles of GTP, one at an exchangeable site on the beta chain and one at a non-exchangeable site on the alpha-chain. Distinct human beta-tubulin isotypes are encoded namely M40 and 5 beta, beta 2. The tubulin beta gene maps to human chromosome 6 at 6p21.33. It is expressed in human adrenal gland, colon, kidney, lung and pancreas. |
Application Notes
We suggest an incubation period of 30 minutes at room temperature. However, depending upon the fixation conditions and the staining system employed, optimal incubation should be determined by the user. Suitable for formalin/paraffin tissues. Specificity: This antibody is specific to a 54 kD protein identified as tubulin- beta. This antibody does not cross react with tubulin-alpha. Its epitope maps between amino acids 416-430. Cellular Localization: Cytoplasmic. |
