Background EGFR is a cell-surface receptor for members of the epidermal growth factor family (EGF-family) of extracellular protein ligands. It is a member of the ErbB family of receptors, a subfamily of four closely related receptor tyrosine kinases: EGFR (ErbB-1), HER2/c-neu (ErbB-2), Her 3 (ErbB-3) and Her 4 (ErbB-4). Besides EGF, the protein is also a receptor for other proteins like amphiregulin, betacellulin, heparin-binding EGF-like growth factor, GP30 and vaccinia virus growth factor. The protein is involved in the control of cell growth and differentiation. The protein is usually expressed in placenta. Mutations affecting EGFR expression or activity could result in cancer. Human EGFR gene is mapped to chromosome 7p12. |
Antigen
This antibody was generated by immunizing rabbits with a synthetic phosphopeptide corresponding to human EGFR around the phosphorylation site of threonine 693 (P-L-TP-P-S). |
