Background
FAK is a cytoplasmic non-receptor protein-tyrosine kinase found concentrated in the focal adhesions that form between cells growing in the presence of extracellular matrix constituents and is involved in signaling pathways involved in cell motility, proliferation, and apoptosis. It is activated by tyrosine phosphorylation in response to either integrin clustering induced by cell adhesion or antibody cross-linking, or via G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) occupancy by ligands such as bombesin or lysophosphatidic acid, or via LDL receptor occupancy. FAK plays a potential role in oncogenic transformation resulting in increased kinase activity. Human FAK gene is localized on chromosomal region 8q24-qter.

Antigen
This antibody was generated by immunizing rabbits with a synthetic non-phosphopeptide corresponding to human FAK around the phosphorylation site of tyrosine 925 (K-V-YP-E-N).
