Background
Vav, which is predominantly expressed during adult life, is one of the genetic markers that correlate with the differentiation of the hematopoietic cells. Its functional importance has been extensively studied in T and B cells, in which it appears crucial for both development and functions. In non-lymphoid hematopoietic cells, Vav is mainly involved in the response of mature cells to a variety of stimuli that lead to spatial and temporal reorganization of the actin-based cytoskeleton during proliferation and phagocytosis. Vav acts as a potential target for gene therapy of myeloproliferative disorders. Human Vav gene maps to the chromosome 19 in the region 19p13.2.

Antigen
This antibody was generated by immunizing rabbits with a synthetic non-phosphopeptide corresponding to human Vav around the phosphorylation site of tyrosine 174 (E-I-YP-E-D).
