Background
Researchers have indicated that they want access to novel target antibodies quickly to aid in their research. IMGENEX is pleased to be able to offer researchers access to cutting-edge products that are still in the process of characterization/validation. IMGENEX’s ‘IMX’ antibody line is shown by ELISA to bind to the peptide used as immunogen. Investigators should empirically determine the suitability of the antibody, including optimal dilutions, for other applications of interest.

Beclin-1 is a novel Bcl-2-interacting cellular protein that may play a role in antiviral host defense. The beclin1 gene maps to a region approximately 150 kb centromeric to BRCA1 on chromosome 17q21 that is commonly deleted in breast, ovarian, and prostate cancer. The protein has been proposed to coordinate both apoptosis and autophagy through direct interaction with anti-apoptotic family members Bcl-2 and Bcl-X(L). The protein contains a conserved BH3 domain, which is both necessary and sufficient for its interaction with Bcl-X(L). The protein is ubiquitously expressed. Beclin-1 deficiency disrupts neuronal autophagy and promotes neurodegeneration and AD-like disease. |
Antigen
Amino acids 53-72 (KPGETQEEETNSGEEPFIET) of human Beclin-1 protein were used as the immunogen. |
Application Notes
The amino acid sequence used as immunogen is 100% homologous in human, 95% homologous in mouse and bovine and 90% homologous in rat and pig. |
